Changes Within Countries After the War
Another consequence of war was the change that occurred within each country as a reaction to the war. Each country involved either went in a new direction to rebuild, or made a change within their society because of the sacrifices they made after the war had ended.
Geography:
Students have learned about WWII and the causes it can have. Students will create posters to talk about the significant battles of the war. For geography, the end of the war is discussed by how the countries were aligned after the war was over. This activity discussed the battles and the consequences for the countries who lost the battles. Students will watch the battle scene in "Saving Private Ryan" when the beaches of Normandy were stormed. Students will research battles and create a poster of one and discuss the following criteria; what the battle was that took place, who won the battle, which countries were involved, how many casualties there were, and how it affected the outcome of the war. This is an alternative assessment to the unit test in our integrated project.
World History:
As students enter the classroom, they will hear the theme song from the peoples court playing. They will see that the classroom has been set up as mock court room. They will take a seat where they can, and i will randomly select people to play the part of jurors, i will be the judge, and a fellow teacher will play the part of the person on trial. I will give a brief summary of the case, and then i will ask the jurors to come to a decision. Once this reenactment is finished, we will put the classroom back together and watch a video showing actual footage from the Nuremberg Trials held after WWII. This will show students the importance of taking responsibility for your actions right or wrong. After watching this video, students will be assigned a project for this lesson. Students will put themselves in the place of a journalist who is in the court room at the Nuremberg Trials. They will be asked to research the Nuremberg Trials and write an article for a local newspaper on what is taking place at these trials. Students will also be asked to answer the question of the day, "What major laws or rulings resulted from the Nuremberg Trials, and do you agree with the rulings that resulted from these trials? Please explain why you either agree or disagree with these rulings."

American History:
Students will watch a video on the role of women during the war and how this change within our society led women to the place they are today. I will demonstrate the huge impact women had in aiding the war efforts and the video will show how women helped the U.S. win the war. We will also discuss how women were expected to take on their domestic role once the war ended, since the men were back to take their roles in the workplace. I will explain, however, that some women fought to stay where they were which allowed men to begin seeing women as equals in the workplace which was a significant change in our society. Students will be able to research different roles women partook during the war to help the country progress and study what happened to that role once the war ended. They will be able to identify if women were still welcomed or if they were forced out by the company.

Economics:
In this lesson students will be exploring the differences between Capitalists, Socialists, and Communists and learning what economic system Japan turned to after the events of World War II. Students will create their own definitions for the three major economic systems, and will discuss how Japan became Capitalists after World War II due to the intervention of the United States. The students will explore all of the good that capitalism brought to Japan. and explain their thoughts on America's intervention on Japan. After this, the students will be shown a video on the bombing of Japan and be posed a new question: does the good outweigh the bad? The lesson will end with an exit card where the students answer three questions: 1.) In your own words, what is capitalism?, 2.) Was capitalism coming to Japan a positive or negative effect of war for them? Explain, and 3.) In your opinion did the good that came to Japan outweigh the bad that happened before the war ended?
