The Social Studies Team
We chose this topic because we find that it is important and
valuable for students to understand why countries enter war, and what happens
as a result of it. Students will be able to apply the knowledge they gain from this unit to other wars that they will learn about in the future. They will be able to acknowledge that there arecertain events which trigger conflicts that lead to war. On the other hand, the ramifications of war can have lasting effects on future generations. It is important that students can identify these impacts in order to understand how the world is today.
This unit is made up of four different content areas: Geography, Economics, World History, and American History. We chose these four content areas because they tie closely into what causes war and what results of a war
when it’s over. Geography allows the students to recognize where the countries we are discussing are located. They will also learn how taking land from one another can lead to a heated war. Economics will show students that when a
country is facing an economic downfall that they will latch onto anything stable. World History shows the students the interactions and relationships between countries and what leads them to war. American History allows students to
understand the country we live in and the role that we play in global affairs, both past and present.
